it think its Cebu...
aw cebu jud oi.. ma ilisan ba kaha ni puhon?
A little history guys...
- Loyal kaayu ang Iloilo sa Spanish Government.
- Negros lasang pana sang una. Puro kahoy
Before, the island was called Buglas.
- Nag migrate mga taga Iloilo and Cebu sa Negros because they heard na cultivated kaayu ang soil. That's why sa Occidental (hiligaynon/ilonggo speaking) and sa Oriental (Cebuano Speaking).
So... and since naay port ang Iloilo, sa Iloilo river. Diha tanan na businesses and nagprogress jud ang Iloilo and next to Manila.
- From Silay City Port and Pulupandan Port in Negros, sugar were transported to Iloilo and from Iloilo, sugar were transported abroad. Nag start ang Negros Navigation to transport the "Sacadas" from Iloilo and Antique to Negros to work in the sugarcane fields.
- Naay sugar quota ang Philippines sa US so booming kaayu ang sugar industry especially in the whole island of Negros, from Occidental to Oriental and cge prosper ang Iloilo kay tanang business transactions naa didto.
- Sugar industry collapsed during the mid 80's. WHY? US discovered that they can produce sugar using corn. and they don't need the Philippines anymore. so walay choice ang Philippines but to sell the sugar to international market and dili ra baya Philippines ang nag produce ka sugar so daghan kaayu competition sa ubang nasud. Barato kaayu ang baligya sa international market because of the competition.
- What happened next? 80% of the population in Negros fell below the poverty line (I dont know if you are aware of the "Batang Negros") and since there's no ongoing transaction na sa Iloilo coz collapsed na ang sugar industry naapektuhan pud sila. Mga warehouses near the port nag close.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Why Negros is included in the story? Because Negros and Iloilo complement each other. If progress ang basehan progressive jud kaayu sa una ang Iloilo and loyal kaayu sila sa Spain sa una... Adto mageskwela mga taw before kay daghan man universities, makadungog nako sa radyo sang una na Queen City of the South and Iloilo.
Because of the old politicians, nag down ang Iloilo... daghang gusto mag invest before but gi decline ka Mayor coz iya daw priority ang mga local business man lang so ang mga gusto unta mag invest sa syudad nangita laing location to put up their businesses.
di man sa bilog gid nga Negros ah. Mga 10pm guro pwede na.
ahahaahah... pagsure woi...
The reason is they want to regain their status as The Queen City of the South. Ambot if kahibaw mo about Iloilo - Premier City by 2015. Mao na ang goal nila and I think their Mayor is doing well naman thats' why daghan na kaayu investments sa ilaha...

I think its not well stated kung unsay mga qualifications nga mahimong Queen City of the South
Some, like those favoring Iloilo, find their basis in history such as (Iloilo) being the Spanish Queen's favorite
and not because of her affection towards the natives of Iloilo but of it's contribution to Spain.
I mean let's get real and not look at our christianisation from Spain as an act of being genuine and sincere for our ancestors' well being...but rather they (our native ancestors) are just being part of the quota or mere statistic to be presented to the kingdon of spain as the "christianised" indios or the people of the land the claim and conquered by these Spanish conquerors...or to put it more bluntly, they are simply branding our ancestors as a commodity and part of that New World they have just discovered and claimed in the name of spain.
But thats besides the point
AGAIN....to those who want to bow down low to that long dead queen of Spain who dubbed Iloilo that time as the "QUEEN CITY OF THE SOUTH"..by all means, go ahead ilonggos take the title.
But as far as current significance---economic importance and tourism prominence is concerned
Cebu strongly represents the other point of the axis of the south as Manila is to north
and as far as tourism is concern
Go to Japan..or say..Paris or Kandahar for all I care
I have a veeery strong feeling they haven't heard of Iloilo
as compared to Cebu
