    Default Demo noid Returns

    Source: Demo noid Shut Down by the CRIA

    illegal website, one of the most popular BitTorrent trackers has allegedly been taken offline by the Canadian Recording Industry Association (CRIA). Both the tracker and the website have been unresponsive for nearly 24 hours now.

    _________________________________________________

    As of now it is still unsure what exactly happened, but the popular Dutch news site nu.nl reports that the CRIA is responsible for the downtime.

    TorrentFreak contacted some of the Demo noid administrators, but they are not sure what happened either. It is certainly possible that Demo noid’s Canadian ISP pulled the plug after being pressured by the CRIA. The Demo noid server is still pinging, but the ISP could have firewalled the everything after they received some serious legal threats. Deimos, the founder and the head admin of the site is unreachable and has not responded yet.

    This is not the first time Demo noid suffers major downtime due to pressure from the anti-piracy lobby. Demo noid had to move its servers from The Netherlands to Canada in June after The Dutch anti-piracy outfit BREIN filed a subpoena against Demo noid’s ISP. BREIN had asked the ISP to take Demo noid offline and hand over the administrator’s personal details, but Demo noid relocated their servers before any harm was done.

    Unfortunately, it now seems that Canada is not the “safe haven” as they expected it to be.

    Demo noid tracks over a million .torrent files and is the second largest BitTorrent tracker after The Pirate Bay. The shutdown of the site and tracker is a huge blow for the BitTorrent community that lost 2 of the most popular BitTorrent trackers (TorrentBox was taken offline for US users a few hours ago) within 24 hours.

    More info soon!

    I guess casual torrent users will be at a loss now that Demo noid is down... Will Isohunt, Piratebay and ******** and other public torrent trackers be next? ;D

    Demo noid returns but forced to block Canadian traffic to site

    Demo noid is finally back online after a week of downtime in which rumors swirled that the tracker was taken down by the Canadian Recording Industry Association (CRIA). Although the rumors proved to be somewhat true, the tracker and website are still being hosted on a Canadian ISP but now must block all Canadian traffic.

    A note on the Demo noid homepage had this to say, "We received a letter from a lawyer representing the CRIA, they were threatening with legal action and we need to start blocking Canadian traffic because of this. Thanks for your understanding, and sorry for any inconvenience."

    This latest decision mirrors the recent situations with other public trackers Isohunt and TorrentSpy which were forced to block access to US users.

    Although the forums and the site in general still seem to be in somewhat of disarray, the admins promise to have it up and running at full pace in a few days.

    TPB files charges against media companies

    Thanks to the email-leakage from MediaDefender-Defenders we now have proof of the things we've been suspecting for a long time; the big record and movie labels are paying professional hackers, saboteurs and ddosers to destroy our trackers.

    While browsing through the email we identified the companies that are also active in Sweden and we have tonight reported these incidents to the police. The charges are infrastructural sabotage, denial of service attacks, hacking and spamming, all of these on a commercial level.

    The companies that are being reported are the following:

    * Twentieth Century Fox, Sweden AB
    * Emi Music Sweden AB
    * Universal Music Group Sweden AB
    * Universal Pictures Nordic AB
    * Paramount Home Entertainment (Sweden) AB
    * Atari Nordic AB
    * Activision Nordic Filial Till Activision (Uk) Ltd
    * Ubisoft Sweden AB
    * Sony Bmg Music Entertainment (Sweden) AB
    * Sony Pictures Home Entertainment Nordic AB

    Stay tuned for updates.

    WTF!? im pretty sure demo noid will be back on it's feet (err... legs or whatever).

    same like what happened to suprnova.org. if you guys haven't noticed... suprnova is back for quite some time now. the mother of all torrent trackers ^____^

    Disclaimer: Piracy is illegal. I recommend you use genuine products.

    (But it's always handy to "TRY" them out first before buying the real one ^____^)

    They can shut the machines down but they can't shut the spirit of the file sharing community. They will be up and running again that's for sure. As to when, that we don't know...but I'm confident it is not going to take long as they did before. There's Pirate Bay, ******** and a lot more anyway. And never underestimate Limewire, Kazaa, Imesh, Emule and many others where one can just post their trackers easily there.

    Just stay tuned.
