Default Business Registration Info for Freelancers in Cebu City

    Good day, Istoryans!

Can any freelancer here share information on how "difficult" it is to register a local business here in Cebu City? What are the steps, requirements, etc? Sorry if I emphasized that it is difficult as it is what I've heard when registering business esp. here in Cebu City. If any official can read this, I hope he/she be able to propose a simple/easy process on registering business for freelancers (single proprietorship / partnership & corpo).

Also, I've heard there is a need to have an office, have a fire extinguisher, blah3x? Why? Many internet earner freelancers can work anywhere, right?

Please give information also on how you issue receipts if clients are from abroad.

    Im not a freelancer.

Kani imong case, naa'y two options:
1 ) to register a separate business entity (depende sa imo gusto: sole proprietor, partnership, corp)
---- If kani imo, mo-follow jud ka sa regular process on how to register.
-------- Adto ka sa DTI or SEC aron pag-register og sa imong business name
-------- Kuha og brgy clearance and mayors permit
    -------- Register sa BIR
-------- If naa na kay employees, mo-register pod ka sa SSS, Pag-ibig & PhilHealth
-------- Syempre, kung magtukod ka og building for your business office, lain na pod na nga process.

2 ) to declare yourself as self-employed kay freelance man kaha na imo.
---- This should be the easiest way for you.
-------- Register and get your TIN from BIR.
-------- If naa na ka TIN, i-report lang nimo imong income sa BIR (annually or quarterly) and pay taxes.
-------- Pwede ra ka mag-voluntar or self-employed sa SSS, Pag-Ibig og PhilHealth

Kung unsa jud imong gusto, you make the choice.
    Mao ra ni ako nahibaw-an.

    Good luck!

Wow, thank you so much boss jackdi. I didn't know about that second option you mentioned and I think many of us don't know as well. I think that would be the best option for most freelancers.

Let me also add, even if you don't pay "income taxes", don't forget there's no escaping the 12% VAT everytime you breathe!

Also, for those who haven't experienced registering a business, regardless if it's sole prop, partnership, etc.... Just a heads up, the BIR won't accept "lugi man mi karon sir kay summer man gud hinay among nilat-an kay halo2 gipangita sa mga tao" excuses. The BIR has a "bracket" to follow for whatever business you belong to. Each business has a MINIMUM tax to pay the BIR regardless of how your business is doing.

This is not like developed countries where if in case your business loses, the BIR will give you a tax refund. This is not madness! this is the.... PHILIPPINES! mwahahahahaha
