from what i heared there are different type of otaku and it doesnt always count as only on mangas or animes. otaku simply means an addict.
now for your answer, not all otakus are fat and sweaty and wearing glasses all the time. some are very skinny. its just that they're so obsessed with mangas and animes that they don't much like to socialize. They might look bad but in reality, all they want to do is what they love to do so you cant really say anything against that.
the article was probably when the reporter tried to ask a question to an otaku but he ignored and ran away. The reason is that the heavy core otakus are shy because they dont often socialize with others except other otaku members

agreed i even concern myself of being an otaku , i think it's cool since im being obsessed with one thing...though..being too much attached with one thing is bad

Aw crap! I may be fat but at least I am somehow not socially inept. I am glad to be an otaku of anime, manga, tokusatsu (Kamen Rider HENSHIN!!!! Super Sentai! Metal Heroes!), etc which as a whole gives me more entertainment which are awesome.

Being an otaku used to be negative, pero now its becoming more positive, thanks to the growing popularity of the Japanese media.. WeEeeeeeeeeeeeee! Wanna go to Japan.. ^^
