Default This year's strongest typhoon heads for Japan

Super Typhoon Vongfong, with Philippine name "Ompong," rapidly intensified Tuesday, according to the US Joint Typhoon Watch Center (JTWC) and state weather bureau PAGASA.
The tropical cyclone is expected to reach its peak Wednesday and pack maximum sustained winds of 260 kilometers per hour and gusts reaching 314 kph before it slams into southern Japan.
To compare, super typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda) had one-minute maximum sustained winds of 230 kph and 315kph gusts just before it caused havoc in the Philippines.
Vongfong will not hit the Philippines and will make landfall in Japan by Sunday, according to the JTWC.
The cyclone is too far to affect any part of the Philippines, PAGASA said. "However, it is expected to enhance the northeasterly winds that will result in rough sea conditions off Northern Luzon and the eastern seaboard of Central and Southern Luzon."
"Fisherfolks and those using small seacrafts are advised not to venture out over the said seaboards," PAGASA said.

Japan was one of the few nations to immediately deploy relief when Yolanda ravaged RP. Hopefully, there will be no casualties.
