I have not been --- and still am --- not into Network pitching to define my TV viewing. But I should give it to GMA that its "Serbisyong Totoo on the big screen" at SM Cinema 2 yesterday was a noticeable success.
1. The projection system installed filled up the entire 16:9 screen of SM Cinema 2 and the sound passed through the theater's Dolby processes.
2. There was an SRO attendance by Cebu's film enthusiasts.
3. The brief talks by Jessica Soho and other GMA Network icons like Sandra Aguinaldo and Raffy Timan were quite encouraging.
4. The I-Witness, Dokyu and Peabody Award episodes shown were excellent in their storytelling --- except that they were just telling stories about the country's grinding poverty and its impact on the live of the assetless poor (from living conditions to malnutrition to organ trading to work abuses to scavenging, etc.; only Howie Severino did a rather highbrow story on film retrieval and archiving with the perennial shrieking Nick Deocampo and his gang of Co and Chiong on the limelight).
5. The hosts Enriquez, Soho, Aguinaldo, Timan, David, Santos and Severino were lionized for the role they played in their individual stories. They all deserve that lionization. But where are the directors who were just flashed in the crawling end credits at the speed of lights --- are they these forgettable? Poor directors!
In the end, the entire show show was just a big part of the pitching.
