Square Enix CEO Yoichi Wada predicts end of consoles

Square Enix CEO Yoichi Wada has said that Sony and Microsoft are already prepared for the death of the console era.

“In ten years’ time a lot of what we call ‘console games’ won’t exist,” the executive told MCV.

“In the past the platform was hardware, but it has switched to the network… A time will come when the hardware isn’t even needed anymore,” he added, noting that Sony and Microsoft are ready for a new era dominated by server-based offerings, game streaming and digital distribution.

“Somewhere around 2005 the console manufacturers’ strategy shifted,” he said.

This is only a prediction, he thinks he's nostradamus and I dont believe this at all, sony and microsoft will continue to make next gen consoles....

If the executive turns out to be right in the long years to come, such a change would dramatically alter the console gamer's lifestyle as well as the digital lifestyle itself.

Square Enix mostly makes games for consoles.

I don't think its going to be the end of consoles. As a PC Gamer myself, I find PC Gaming dying than consoles.

Maybe the consoles will die, specifically PS3 as it is target in the Japanese Market. But hey, there are loadtonnes of XBOX 360 users in America. People in America will still patronize the console because of its overly advantage over PCs.
