Help installing softwares in Ubuntu

Hello to all ubuntu users, i just installed a ubuntu 7.0 gutsy gibbon in my pc, suddenly i want to install some application to be used for my job.. here is this applications

- Filezilla 3 = FileZilla_3.0.8.1_i586-linux-gnu.tar.bz2
- php eclipse Editor = net.sourceforge.phpeclipse_1.1.8.bin.dist.zip

all files i put it on the desktop

I know that the way to install this is on terminal, but i didn't do it successfuly, could you guys help me how to work this things out?

as root

Code:

tar -zxvf nameof.tar.gz

this command above is the equivalent of unzip in windows (it uncompresses an archive)

then usually (but always read INSTALL file or README etc)

./configure
make
make install

you usually can do configure and make as a regular user and make install as root. But these are very generic questions and the INSTALL file or whatever it is called in each particular case will give detailed instructions and if you still don't know then ask.

regarding the filezilla.. it really hard to find or any guide how to install it.. coz it they don't have any documentation or guide how to install. but for the php eclipes i'm not sure how to do this.. but i see some code says
sudo -g.... somethng... but says file doesn't work..

anyway do you have any php editor that can be used for ubuntu? or?

First Method:
You can use Synaptic Package Manager. Filezilla is there and so are eclipse, screem, and kate.

To open Synaptic Package Manager:

Click on System>Administration>Synaptic Package Manager.

Once in Synaptic, click on "Search" and on the entry box that appears type the name of the software you are looking for. Then click "Search" or hit "Enter" key.

When the search results come up and the app you need is listed, right-click on it. And click "mark for installation", then click "Apply". Synaptic will download and install the software for you.

This is how apps are installed the graphical way in Ubuntu.

Second Method:
Another way (the easier way) is to use the Add/Remove Programs feature of Ubuntu. Click on Gnome Main-menu(Applications). You'll see Add/Remove menu entry at the bottom. Click on this. On the left pane, of the window that appears, click on "Programming". You'll see all apps that you can install under that category at the right pane. Just tick off the software that you want to install and then click Apply Changes at the lower right bottom part of the window. The app you selected will be downloaded and installed.

Third Method:
Fire up Gnome-Terminal.
type:
sudo apt-get install nameofsoftware

Example:
sudo apt-get install screem

press enter. You will be prompted for ur password.

Type password, press enter again and downloading and installation commences.

bro, ask lang sad ko since about ni sa installation sa Ubuntu. Unsaon pag install sa Ubuntu sa External Hard Drive nako. na pwede nako e boot bisag asa nga PC. Thanks
