a label exec dropped from a major label started an indie label with a country singer who wanna bomb America's enemy who signed a teenage singer/songwriter who was spotted by Disney then this label exec guy was approached by the mother company of the label who fired him and made a negotiation to jointly release her 2nd album and rerelease the first and then out of a sudden, you have the biggest selling indie girl singer/songwriter and the guy who spotted the girl is now enjoying mainstream popularity in the country music scene without even giving up his artistic craft (even his remake of Lips of An Angel was his choice and not the label).
The dissolved label is
DREAMWORKS.The new label is
BIG MACHINE. The label exec is
Scott Borchetta. The singer who wanna bomb America's enemies is
Toby Keith (who in 2006 parted ways with Big Machine to start his own Show Dog records). The teenager is
Taylor Swift, probably the biggest indie superstar on earth. But since her second album Fearless was picked up by
Universal Republic, i guess it's just right not to call her indie anymore. First album maybe indie (both in distribution and spirit) but this second album is just too polished and poppy for my taste. Still i can listen to it.
In 2009, Big Machine and Universal Republic joined forces to release all albums from Big Machine artists not just Taylor Swift. That means there's a chance Garth Brooks may once again rule the world...
