Build : made of hard plastic, durable enough, can't expect much for its price
Battery life : depends on what headphone its driving, and I personally haven't measured individually, but more than 8 hrs for sure per eneloop
On/off switch : none. you just know it's turned on when the red LED lights up. So unplug your headphone when not in use to save battery power
Now for SQ. Most of my impressions with the E3 was with the NDS as source.
HD650 : can surprisingly bring this to adequate listening levels (volume wise), slight increase in bass, but uncontrolled. Overall, I just find the sound "fun" to listen to. I reach for the HD650 during those times I don't feel like using an IEM while playing my NDS.
K701 : again the E3 surprised me when it got the K701 to adequate listening levels, didn't really give it the bass boost it needed.
With these 2 headphones, it's not surprising that the E3 didn't really drive them to their potential, because the cans mentioned above are hard to drive and E3 only runs on 1 eneloop AAA.
ER4s : now the fii0 E3 can drive the er4s well enough. Though some would say the er4s lacks bass, the fiiO is able to supply it and does what it was meant to do, giving that extra bass boost. My NDS rhythm games are more enjoyable because of this. The E3 adds a bit of warmth and color to the er4s' otherwise neutral sound signature.
ER4s Detail : I separated this because some might argue that there really isn't much to listen to in NDS/gameboy BGMs, but this is one of the remarkable differences between an amped/unamped NDS. So much detail is lost when listening to the gameboy speakers, some detail is recovered when headphones are plugged in. But every detail is heard with the NDS amped. I find it really amazing that Japanese BGM makers are very meticulous when composing their songs. And its wonderful how the er4s delivers this accurately. It also gives the ER4s a bit of headstage, though not as wide as with the mini^3
Value for money : Worth every little centavo spent. One of my best purchases yet
