More than three hours drive from Bislig, a town in Surigao del Sur is another breath-taking island destination, Bonbon Island in Brittania. Just like any other hidden paradise, Bonbon Island boasts of its pristine waters and waves that make one want to seriously try surfing.
Last April, I had another rare opportunity to be toured around Bonbon Islabd with just my sunscreen, bikinis and a lot of adrenaline rush to top what I dub as my one-of-a-kind adventure.
With the invitation of one of the owners of the Bonbon Island, my friend and I were excited to embark on another adventure, despite the perils of the 30-minute boat ride to the island, with waves as huge as an average man.
The island was bought way back 1991 worth 100, 000 and now it is being eyed by foreign tourists and the amount has risen to 5 million. It is a private island consisting of a hectare of coconut trees and some pebble-sized sand. It was used once as a honeymoon island (somewhat depicting scenes and episodes from Temptation Island) by an English couple.
That time we had the island all to ourselves and we spent the whole day playing with the waters and being washed away towards the shore by huge waves (being that the island faces the Pacific Ocean).
We couldn't help taking a dip and so we played with the waves and basked in the heat of the summer sun.
If you're in for some adventure, Bonbon Island is the best island getaway. Just don't forget to put some sunscreen on.
