Regardless of our global differences in race, nation, and ethnicity, we must ask ourselves what responsibilities and obligations we have as a human collective to create a safe and sustainable world for all future inhabitants of our planet.

What can we contribute today that will serve as a lasting gift to the generations of tomorrow?

On July 11, we come together to observe World Population Day as we reflect on the profound impact of our world’s growing population and its effects on our planet and its inhabitants.

Today, we acknowledge the urgent need to be informed regarding population-related issues as we find long-lasting solutions that will compassionately address the needs of current and future generations.

      History of World Population Day

World Population Day is a global event observed annually every July 11. This international event was established by the United Nations Development Programme in 1989, taking inspiration from the Five Billion Day on July 11, 1987 - which was essentially the approximate date when the planet reached five billion people. Instead, World Population Day seeks to raise awareness of population-related issues such as poverty, reproductive health, family planning, and other critical topics that shape humanity's collective present and future.*

As we observe World Population Day, we not only reflect on the challenges posed by population growth but also strive to foster global dialogue in combatting and addressing societal issues as we develop a more inclusive planet.*

With a current population of approximately eight billion people in 2024, how can we forge a path that guarantees a more equitable and prosperous world for future generations?
