      Empowering future champions:
Globe provides support for teen golf prodigy

As it continues to nurture the future of Philippine sports, Globe has taken 15-year-old golf prodigy David Charles Serdenia under its wing. This initiative reflects the company's deep commitment to fostering emerging talents and empowering their dreams, underlining its dedication to nurturing the next generation of exceptional individuals.

Globe has taken golf prodigy David Charles Serdenia under its wing. His mother, Ana Maria Serdenia (leftmost), was the first to expose him to the world of golf. In this photo, Ana Maria, a long-time caddie, expresses gratitude to Yoly Crisanto, Chief Sustainability and Corporate Communications Officer at Globe, for the company's support of the up-and-coming athlete.

Charles, a caddie's son making waves in the golfing community, aspires to join the national team and represent the Philippines internationally. His remarkable victory in the recent boys' junior NGAP Beverly Place Open junior division in Pampanga highlighted his extraordinary skills and dedication.

Despite his young age, Charles' journey has been inspiring and challenging. The self-taught athlete first developed a love for golf at the age of seven but faced numerous obstacles, particularly financial constraints, which forced him to put his golfing ambitions on hold for over two years.

Yet Charles' mother, Ana Maria, a dedicated caddie for 25 years, did her utmost to back his passion, even borrowing money to cover tournament fees.

"During the pandemic, I saw him practicing while working as a caddie. Every day, rain or shine, he pitched on the putting green. I told myself my son truly wanted to be a golfer. I let him be," she recounts.

Charles said, "I see my mom struggling, so I told myself to practice well to help my mom."

Fortunately, the golf community rallied behind Charles, providing financial assistance and donating equipment, including clubs, bags, shirts, and shoes.

Ernest Cu, Globe President and CEO, first learned about Charles' story and recognized his potential in the sport. Globe then stepped forward to provide financial support for the teen to hone his skills and technique further.

"Supporting Charles will help shape his young talent. His extraordinary resilience and steadfastness in the face of daunting challenges embody the essence of determination we strive to foster. We are excited to play a role in his journey towards success and eagerly anticipate watching him grow as a golfer and a source of inspiration for many," said Ernest Cu, Globe Group President and CEO.

The company's support will enable Charles to compete in upcoming tournaments and assist in achieving top-level proficiency in golf.

The official endorsement highlights Globe's broader mission to elevate aspiring athletes and make meaningful contributions to the community, aligned with its goal of promoting excellence and national representation in sports and creating a positive societal impact.
