SafeSpace stages its first one-act play, “Lockdown”, this October.
With a subject still fresh in the minds of the Cebuanos, SafeSpace Association mounts "Lockdown," reliving the extreme challenges of the pandemic, pushing an already fragile Cebuano family to the brink of
collapse.
The story revolves around a pastor, Rudy, played by multi-awarded film actor Arnel Pahang, whose current emotional stability may radically change his wife's and son's lives. Pahang, other than playing in several stage plays and films, including the international series "Almost Paradise," coveted this year's Best Actor award at the Sinegugma Film Festival.
Seasoned Cebuana stage and voice actress Cherie Lou Mendoza Solon plays Rudy's wife, Nimfa. She is placed in a web of complexities, balancing between being a wife and a mother while getting through the pandemic. Solon played in several one-act and full-length stage plays. The latest was in the recently concluded "Steel Magnolias."
Introducing John Matthew Mendoza, playing the son Jude, whose personal crisis alleviates the already vulnerable and pandemic-risked family.
"LOCKDOWN" is written by four-time Palanca awardee writer Manu Avenido and directed by versatile creative and actor Andrew Lazarte. The playdates will be on October 28 and 29 at the Teatro Casino Waterfront Hotel, Lahug, Cebu City. Tickets are priced at P300 and P500 and are available at Casino Filipino Cebu or SafeSpace Association's Facebook page.
SafeSpace Association is a recently founded non-profit organization that envisions allowing individuals to express their creativity. Being a new organization, SafeSpace had already developed landmark creative ventures, including its first Sinulog Film Festival entry, which garnered three nominations for Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor, and Best Actress.
Last Holy Week season, SafeSpace was responsible for the Living Sculpture of the Stations of the Cross, produced by Ramon Aboitiz Foundation, the very first in Cebu.
