The eyes of the world will once again be focused on the island Province of Cebu with the holding of the 2019 Regent AGUILA IRONMAN 70.3 powered by Philam Vitality to be held at Shangri-La’s Mactan Resort & Spa in Lapu-Lapu City on August 11.
Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Junard “Ahong” Chan, who formally took office July 1, was the host of the formal launch at the Ocean Pavilion of the Shangri-La’s Mactan Resort & Spa last July 4. Mayor Chan said he is fully supporting the IRONMAN 70.3 race not only as the father of the City but also as an athlete, having been a tennis player in his younger days.
Present during the launch were representatives from the Province of Cebu Mandaue City, Cebu City, and Talisay City. Also present were Regional Director for Region 7, Department of Tourism Shalimar Tamano; Regional Director for Region 7, DPWH Edgar Tabacon; Regional Director, PNP Region 7 General Debold Sinas; Shangri-La’s Mactan Resort & Spa GM Rene Egle; and Sunrise Events, Inc. General Manager Princess Galura.
Participants in the formal launch ironed out the final details of the race, which will traverse the island province of Cebu, to ensure its smooth conduct and conclusion.
The Prestige of IRONMAN 70.3 in Cebu IRONMAN racing has grown by leaps and bounds in Cebu. Since being awarded as the Best
Spectator Race in the World in 2018 at the World Championship in Kona, its prestige and reputation continue to invite more triathletes to the Island Province further pushing it as more than just a tourist destination, but a sports destination as well.
Two thousand four hundred triathletes from 55 countries, including former IRONMAN 70.3 champions Tim Reed, Mauricio Mendez, Radka Kahlefeldt and Caroline Steffen, will gather to compete in the internationally renowned race organized by Sunrise Events, Inc., a part of the IRONMAN Group.
The Regent Aguila IRONMAN 70.3 continues its successful run in Cebu this 2019 for its eighth consecutive year. The Queen City of the South was the host of the IRONMAN 70.3 Asia Pacific twice in 2016 and 2018. This year’s race also welcomes its new presenting sponsor, Philam Vitality.
Race Week Events Companion events of the 2019 Regent Aguila IRONMAN 70.3 are the Herbalife Nutrition IRONGIRL 5K and the Alaska Fortified IRONKIDS triathlon. The biggest and most complete
triathlon expo of the year will be at the venue for the whole race week, from August 8 to 11.
Herbalife Nutrition IRONGIRL
The Herbalife Nutrition IRONGIRL will kick off the weekend and take place on August 9, 5 PM at Shangri-La’s Mactan Resort & Spa. Registration for IRONGIRL opened on June 12 and all 1,200 slots were sold in a record time of three hours. Due to popular demand, additional slots will open on July 4.
Alaska Fortified IRONKIDS
Following suit is Alaska Fortified IRONKIDS, which will be a swim-bike-run race for children aged six to 14 years old. It will be held on August 10, 6 A.M. at the beachfront of the Shangri-La’s Mactan Resort & Spa. At least 400 participants are expected to join the triathlon race.
Regent Aguila IRONMAN 70.3 powered by Philam Vitality
The 2019 Regent AGUILA 70.3 powered by Philam Vitality starts the 1.9K swim at the beautiful beachfront of Shangri-La’s Mactan Resort & Spa in Lapu Lapu City. After the swim, participants mount their rides for the 90K bike leg and finish off with a 21K run along the streets of Punta Engano, Mactan.
The Race Course
Participants take the road passing through Mactan Newtown and proceed to the road climbing through the Marcelo Fernan Bridge. The bike leg then takes participants on a scenic tour of the sights and sounds of Cebu, Mandaue, and Talisay. The bike leg ends at the Shangri-La’s Mactan Resort & Spa.
From Shangri-La’s Mactan Resort and Spa, participants run through the generally flat terrain of mixed asphalt and concrete roads of Punta Engano. They will complete a two-loop course before returning to the finish line at Shangri-La’s Mactan Resort & Spa.
The run course has recently been awarded as the best among all Asian races for the IRONMAN 70.3 distance in 2018 The event’s title sponsor is Aguila Energy Drink with presenting sponsor Philam Vitality. Venue hosts are Province of Cebu, City of Lapu-Lapu and Shangri-La’s Mactan Resort & Spa.
