10 Things about #MTK

1 It’s the first feature film of Rowell Ucat aka Medyo Maldito. At first, he was hesitant and was not confident to be a part of the film because he is used to his usual Facebook “Hugot” videos. He has never tried acting in a feature film but he realized it’s an experience.


2 The concept started when Medyo Maldito approached Jude Gitamondoc and Therese Marie Villarante (the film’s scriptwriters) first and asked if they wanted to write a good story for his movie. Then Roy (Medyo Maldito) introduced them to the executive producer, Sunshine Lim of Heritage Productions and began the planning stage of the film.

3 The film is inspired by the life of Medyo Maldito. You can see a different Roy in the movie apart from the Medyo Maldito you see in social media.

4 #MTK means Magbuwag Ta Kay is a love story that revolves around Roy and Kay (Akiko Solon). It is a story of love in the beginning with complications. It also tells us how to survive in a relationship and how to make it better.

5 The whole preparation took more than a month then the film was shot for three weeks.

6 The executive producer, Sunshine Lim’s love for film making comes from her deep appreciation of talents in Cebu.

7 This film is special because #MTK is the second Bisaya film solely owned by pure Cebuano producers. There may be other Bisaya films released in the market but they were co-owned by award-giving bodies like Cinema One. #MTK is an exception.

8 Sharing the film to the public will give hope and inspiration to the Cebuano independent film making scene to be aggressive in its serious steps towards becoming an industry where other Cebuano film makers will follow suit. They will prove that Cebuano cinema is here to stay.


9 #MTK is a Heritage Productions Cebuano film written by Jude Gitamondoc and Therese Marie Villarante, and directed by Janice Perez and Reuben Joseph Aquino. And it stars Rowell Ucat as Roy, Akiko Solon as Kay, Mark Anthony Abucejo aka Snake Princess, Dante Luzon as Roy’s father, Ligaya Rabago as Roy’s mother, Rio Delizo as Roy’s deaf brother, and Roy’s friends played by Alem Garcia, Kurt Fick, and many others.

10 #MTK (Magbuwag Ta Kay) is going to be shown in January 2018, in time for the Sinulog festivities.
