Rediscovering 10,000 Maniacs' 1985 album, "Wishing Chair"
I actually bought this in 1989, AFTER "In My Tribe", and I totally mistook it for a LATER album. Turned out it was made 4 years earlier. I wonder if my sis still keeps the original casette tape. The digital version is now a temporary resident of my phone's memcard.
Speaking of my phone, I thought my 4-year old SMART Buddy simcard just died on me today. I kept getting "No Network Available" status messages. I swapped sim cards with an officemate, and the said simcard worked in my phone (initially, I thought my P990i was going kaput, but this test proved it was the sim, and not the phone, that was gasping for life). But, it miraculously came back to life after 2 hours (yes L. E., it's back!), whew. Seems to be back in good shape now.
I'm building (and rebuilding, and rebuilding, and sigh rebuilding) a palace in Second Life...I'm actually getting a bit tired because all the rebuild/redesign requests from the client are now slowly eroding my zest and vigor in adding my own personal design elements into it. But then I have to get the job done soon, otherwise, no moolah!
I rewatched M. Night Shaylaman's "Signs" last night. The first time I saw it, I was too busy having conversation with my brother and sister so I didn't really appreciate it that much, but last night I was all alone, in my small, dark room, so the ambience was perfect to enjoy this movie.
(my favorite scene...protection against "alien mind control" Hooray for Reynold's Wrap whoohoo!)
(btw I just read that Joaquin Phoenix is quitting Hollywood...not a fan, but he's in this photo so I had to say something about it)
Also rewatched the original "The Day the Earth Stood Still" (made in 1951) last Saturday, in all it's black and white glory. I first saw it as a little boy, and the details of the story were blurry then, but the message at the end of the movie left a lasting mark on my psyche. They say the storyline for the new 2008 version (which stars Keanu Reeves), coming out this December, is a bit different, adapting to the more pressing concerns of today's world, rather than the then-significant threat of Nuclear Holocaust brought about by the cold war. I must admit the Gort scenes really made me chuckle, considering we live in the age of "Transformers" and "Wall-E". According to some insider reports, the new Gort for Keanu's version will be more or less similar to the old Gort, but with some added punches. Can't wait to see it.
Gort! Klaatu, barada, nikto!!!
