Memoirs of an Amnesiac

  1. Travel Anxieties (and Some Bonamine Moments)

My trip to Surigao City by Thursday was moved to tomorrow. I thought I had resigned myself to thinking that my shopping of stuffs for that trip will have to be put off to tomorrow. Well, I was wrong. With a seminar to conduct on Reading and Campus Journalism, I'm still amiss. Like someone who needed to tell her lover its over, I don't know where and how to begin.

Yet, there are things that occupy my mind now more than anything else. Apart from the seminar are some travel anxieties ...

  2. Of Love and Soap Suds

I do my own laundry. I find it satisfying that they don't get to be mixed with other clothes (which smell I am as unsure as the stranger who owns them) should I decide to have them in the laundry shops. I usually do my laundry on Saturday mornings when I'm off from school work and have the day to myself.

I love the smell of fabric conditioner that reminds me so much that my task is done. But more than anything else, I love the way soap suds glide back and forth in my hand as I take ...

  3. All the Few Good Men

A joke is told about women almost reaching their "calendar" age (31 years old) and teachers most especially, has often been said like a tale passed on from one single old maid to another.

It said that those types of women are like their very own students taking a multiple choice type of examination. When they are at the ages ranging from 20 to 25, their preferences towards men are like the test choice, "none of the above." When they reach 30, they panic and they ...

  4. Of Death and Rebirths

"Oh death, where is thy sting?" is often what one who is hopelessly bound to earth mutters. Probably because of the unbearable pains and the unmeaningless in one's life do mortals eagerly await their end.

Death connotes many things to different people from different walks of life. To a doctor who pronounced one man's demise, death may mean, the end of time or the time that they need to fill out those death certificates. To a lawyer death may mean heirloom and the time it needs ...

  5. Another Chance

With a book opened to a story's page, I stood in front of a beaming class, waiting for me to take them to another land way back in time and to discover two characters and their internal conflicts. I noticed that for several days now, my students have left the valuing part to me. It used to be that we go through that phase together. Now they seemed to have left me on my own, with the reins on that process.

At other times, it takes on a smooth flow, most especially when the lessons do ...

  6. Ode to Fart

What is it in you that you would not leave us alone? When you could no longer take the atrocities done on your being, you vent yourself up like some active volcano, spewing out odors that pervade our senses.

Is it about what we eat that you often make yourself noticed, like some matinee idol on a movie screen, always flashy with his signature smile? Dieticians should come up with some sort of diet just so you would not make some cameo performance in a leading role.

    Why ...

  7. I am A Paperback

I love reading books as much as I love buying them. But lately, most of my hard-earned money is spent hoarding a lot of books which are mostly about rearing and educating children. Wait, I did buy one on relationships from my favorite Christian author. And guess what, they still lie on my desk and already accumulating dust, waiting for me to notice them. What fancies me now are those trilogies. I just finished Divergent by Virginia Roth and is waiting for the sequel.

    You can now safely ...
