Summer's not only the time to bask in the sun and show off those buffed bodies brought about by endless sessions in the gym or those stretch marks that never seem to get erased no matter how much you put those lotions. It is also the time for refreshments, sorbet and ice cream of one's flavor and liking. There have been many types of refreshments in the market. They are as vast as and directly proportional to the summer heat. But the best kind there is that is truly Filipino is the ...

It's selling like banana Q at the nearest tindahan, hot, sticky and oh so crunchy. Probably because he has another match and the limelight is focused on him that all these news about him and his training is resurfacing. Who wouldn't have known Mr. "You know?" His product endorsements are mushrooming on all media types like lichens on a rock. From pain relievers to energy drinks, he has slowly conquered all our psyches. He ventured into being a boxer, won several ...
I grew up with boys. My mother was always at work and rarely stayed home. My father and brother had been two of the very first men who influenced me greatly at an age where young girls fancy about princes and tutus. I fit in perfectly into the world of my father who wanted so much for a boy as a first born. I played everything that my brother played, lut-hang (or those bamboo toys where you stuff lubi-lubi or wet paper inside and push them to be aimed at someone), spiders (where you ...

It gets to be annoying each time. I had one co-teacher, who, even when it is already in the middle of the school year, still forgets a student's name (even when she only had 4 classes with 20 students each class to handle). In order to hide her somewhat intolerable lack of awareness, she calls students as "Miss U" and "Mister U" until all of them have the same name (to the chagrin of those whose names have been forgotten). Truly, what is there is a ...
It is easy to get fired up. You turn on your iPod or your stereo system, create something out of your hands, attend a week long seminar and you are on your way. Others tend to anchor their inspiration on someone or a goal -- to buy that new gadget, that dream house or that dream car. But what happens when that fire turns into burnt out coals, almost losing their heat, their sense? It happens to all of us, students, parents and professionals alike. For some the duration ...
I was not born on February and neither am I named after Cupid. But my fondness for matchmaking has been quite noticeable to me now. There is something about helping out emotionally handicapped people that gives me a sense of fulfillment. For some reason, I am a magnet of people who wanted to express themselves to someone but couldn't (just yet). A close friend said I should start charging people. I have had many success stories to brag about. I've had two batch mates in college ,who, ...

As a young child, I never had a long hair. I remembered I had an uncle who was so fond of me that he always wanted to cut my hair and named it the "Boracay Cut." I don't know what the rationale was about the name but I did remember crying each time my precious crown of glory was snipped. What took me so long to grow could just be cut by an uncle whose fondness and somewhat disdain for manes had been noteworthy. When I was in my teens, I made sure not to see that uncle often. ...
