His morning visits to the market to buy fish and vegetables (the only food he was allowed to eat) would not be complete without his ever trusty bike. He said the first one (that got stolen in church when he chained it near the prayer room) was way older than I am. It had been his companion while he was yet starting his apprenticeship as an upholsterer somewhere south of Cebu. The new bike that he recently got was with him when a taxi cab accidentally hit him last September (because the driver got ...
They say we spend the first thirty years of our lives making important decisions and the next thirty years living up to the consequences of those decisions. I begin to think and reassess the life that I live now. Have I made really important decisions and what consequences are in store for me? I have trudged on the path less travelled by. I do hope I made a difference. Well, it has been quite lonely sometimes but there are a lot of realizations along the way. I still have not achieved ...
She’s probably the most brilliant person I’ve ever met in our organization. She’s got charm and wittiness that are difficult to reckon with. She’s got terrific organization skills, too. Small wonder her name is always mentioned come programs and tasks. She’s almost perfect. But there’s the rub. However brilliant she is, her relationship is almost facing a down fall. All her life, there was always this one guy. It is like her world only revolves around him. He has become part of her ...

No other place in the world could there be more colorful mixture in the politics scene as there have been in our country. We have a boxer as a congressman in a place that needed someone who has more guts and more importantly, nuts to run a province that is almost left by industrialization. We let a former impeached president run for mayor. (Whatever happened to our day long shouting and marching towards Fuente Osmena just so we could be in one accord against unlawful corruption of our well-earned ...
There are talks about my one year and 4 month-old nephew's getting a bike. With his age, he would need the beginner's wheels added at the rear wheel. I remembered the time when I had to learn how to bike on my own. Back then the bicycles with trainers were not in vogue. My uncle who taught me how to bike was a firm believer of the "sink or swim" ideology so he never was an advocate of wearing helmets. He would let me ride the bike and pedal it a few times and then he would push me to the ...

I'm claustrophobic. I have a fear for enclosed places. I'm so glad I don't have to work in places where I need to endure the elevators. This fear came up when my brother and I played hide and seek and I hid inside one of our cramped cabinets (an antique heirloom my father inherited from his mother). Because of my brother's uncanny playfulness, he locked me inside that cabinet, thus my gnawing fear for enclosed places. Whenever I am inside any enclosed place, I feel my heart racing ...

She took a bath earlier this morning, hoping to refresh her rather laggard senses brought about by the torrid summer heat. As she dries her hair with the towel, her mind wanders to the many things she had to do and accomplish, things she had set her mind to do should she have the day to herself. She had all the reason in the world (including those that have yet to be excavated) why she had not started just even browsing one page of the books she needs to study for the examination she believes will ...
