for me, all are the same..., they only differ on package management..., and apps they use BUT some are interchangeable!

as for community..., dili ko mag base sa usa ka specific distro when it comes to finding solutions..., lets say since ming compare man kag Cent ug Ubuntu...., what I do is "if" you have Ubuntu based issues..., you look for any 'debian' based distros kai same rana sila ug fix or gamay ra ligas sa ila command line if ever... if Cent man gali sab, then you look for RHEL based ones sab ^_^

If you want, you can see the linux tree here: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikiped...n_Timeline.svg
as you can see from that ^_^, there are 3 main/parent distro's, One is Debian, one is Red Hat, and the other one is Slackware.

Sadly..., wala ko linux karon , but if ever I use one again, dili ko ana regular distro kai sayonan rako then bloated nasab sila , hinay2x na sila becoming Windoze in some aspects

    ako choices are:
    - gentoo/funtoo: if ever na-a ko time and have a 'decent' computer to compile it from scratch!!!
    - tinycore: if ever man gali no time ug da-an ang ako hardware.

so in short..., kana gyud sakit sa ulo ako ganahan ^_^, slackware -> LFS (linux from scratch) -> gentoo/funtoo and/or tinycore.

grabeha sa linux tree oy, daghana oy wa mn ko kasabot sa akong ge pamati sa kadaghan haha existing pani tanan karon?

salamat sa info boss, naa koy nakat.onanan da hehe

sa linux tree, na-a ra uban wala kalahotai, if you look at their lines, ang uban kai kutob ra a certain year then papas na...

sa kadaghan sa linux distro, gazillions gyud ako masulti ^_^
tan-awa sab diri aron makakita ka kinsay "in" recently: https://distrowatch.com/
    mayabag ka sa kadaghan...

nindot ang slackware sa-una then ang iya apan (sort of) kai dugay ila release cycle compared to current distros.

if you want full paranoia/OCD/ultimate full control, adto kag Gentoo/Funtoo. Iya so called 'disadvantage' kai ang long time to compile-install time kai from source man gyud siya unlike ubuntu nga ready made binary na, diritso na install. then ang sa Gentoo/Funtoo kai ang end product or applications/utilities kai 'optimized' gyud sa imo hardware!..., kanindot sab sa Gentoo/Funtoo kai if ang mismo nga utility if na-a update, download sources dayon then compile! unlike ubuntu and others, hulat paka many months for them to have an update build/package.

kung anhi sab ka sa Tinycore. for less than "20Mb" na-a naka working OS desktop environment!!! for that small size!!!, if dili ka ganahan sa so called GUI and then gusto kag pure console/command line ra, it can go down to below 10Mb in size!!!
ma-o ni pinaka nindot i-experiment in vmware/virtualBOX kai gamai ra ka-ayo!

    On topic...,
a bit of time ago (long...long one), I have heard of systemd that will replace the typical init system of a linux OS. Upon a bit small research, for what I understand..., kaning systemd kai ming violate na sa unix/linux philosophy to the point it is making a move similar to Windoze

if you read this one: https://lkml.org/lkml/2014/4/2/420
imo makita nga gikasab-an pag ayo ang usa ka developer sa systemd from Torvalds itself! ^_^, mayra...
but to the end, systemd is used by most distros

back then around 10years ago or so, when computers where too expensive and slow, na-a gyud upper hand ang Slackware/Gentoo/Funtoo kai optimized from hardware gyud and from source compared to binary based distros.
Pero karon..., with 4Ghz+ Multi Proc... almost negligible na ang performance penalties.

If you haven't already, do try Linux Mint, been on it for 3 months now and had it set to run closely to my old workflow with free and open-source software, games are either on Steam or Wine.
